In The Boat: Tools of the Trade

A dedicated bass rod locker should carry three setups: a 7'0" medium-heavy baitcasting rod paired with a fast reel for Texas rigs and jigs, a spinning combo for finesse (drop shot, shaky head), and a cranking rod for covering water.

Stock the tackle tray with staples that hold up across conditions — a mix of soft-plastic worms and creature baits, a selection of squarebill and lipless crankbaits, and at least one topwater walking bait for low-light magic hours. Add a forward-facing sonar unit and you can sight-fish deep brush the way tournament pros do.

Items above are widely available at Bass Pro Shops and other major fishing retailers.
