Saltwater gear has to stand up to corrosion. A sealed offshore spinning or conventional reel loaded with 40-80 lb braid pairs with a medium-heavy offshore rod for most inshore-to-coastal action.
Tackle should carry a spread of jigs, swimbaits, and popping plugs across the species you target, plus a run of circle hooks and fluorocarbon leaders for livebaiting. A marine chartplotter with CHIRP sonar turns reef and wreck dots into productive bottom fishing.
